How hair toner is applied in the salon

We start with a quick chat about what you are seeing at home and what you would like the tone to be. The toner is then applied where it is needed, often at the basin, and checked as it develops. Once the tone is right, it is rinsed, conditioned, and you are ready to go.

If it is your first colour appointment, we may ask you to pop in for a quick patch test beforehand, just to keep things safe.

Keeping your toner looking fresh between visits

Toner gradually fades with washing, which is normal, so aftercare matters.

• Use a shampoo that suits coloured hair, especially through the lengths.
• If you go cooler, purple or blue products can help, but only as advised to avoid over toning.
• Heat protection helps prevent colour looking dull and brassy.
• If your water is hard, a clarifying wash now and then can improve shine and tone.
